AJ’s Review… MADAGASCAR
What is it that makes an animal wild? Long claws? Fast feet? Skittish behavior? Or the fact that they eat of silverware, has constant grooming and has showmanship behavior? Everything tended by us humans who wait on them hand and foot. I guess the last statement would be more accurate for the inhabitants of New York Zoo. The main characters of Madagascar from Spielberg’s Dreamworks Animation Studio. A lion (Ben Stiller), a zebra Chris Rock), a giraffe (David Schwimmer), a hippo (Jeda Pinkett Smith), a couple of British monkeys and a trio of neurotic penguins with their heads full of conspiracies!
I’m not going into detail like I did with the Batman Begin review. Instead, I’m going to tell what i like and what i don’t like about the movie. Wether its in order or not, you sort it out. To sum it up totally, Madagascar was mediocre at best. Its not an animation that I think would make an impact and memorable like Finding Nemo, Sharks Tale and Robots. The ratings that was given was a B. I give it a B-, borderline C.
Now I’m not hitting down on the animators from Dreamworks. They did a wonderful job on the movie. From each strand of hair on Alex’s mane to the realistic pink hue on the hippo’s a$$. But I’m not a big fan on how the characters were animated out with their squarish features. Reminds me too much of Hercules… Some people would call Madagascar a fun movie. What was fun about that? There wasn’t a lot of funny moments, the humor were mostly (to me) understandable to adults and the only memorable thing in that movie was the yapping mouth on the zebra, The rave-partying Lemurs and the neurotic penguins. Truth be told I just love the those penguins. They should have their own animation done James Bond style with karate chops, hypnotism and explosions! Wait.. didn’t those penguins already did that? I mean what’s not to love about those pint size birds in tuxedo’s?
Do you see what I mean here? I’m talking more on the penguins than the main characters of the movie itself! Thats the impact a memorable movie should have (even though the penguins are not the main characters). And the only memorable characters are the penguins and the zebra, with a slight pinch of the lion.
My next review will be on Initial D, War of the Worlds and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Not in any particular order…
